Explosion in sewer system

(jd) On Friday (7.3.) at around 7.20 pm, there was a detonation in a sewer on Jägerortstraße. Several manhole covers in the sewer system were pushed out of their anchors as a result of the explosion. Some of them were later found several meters away. Burnt wood was found in two nearby concrete manholes, as well as a canister containing flammable liquid. The amount of property damage caused by the explosion, including in the sewer system, is still under investigation. Witnesses told the police officers who were called to the scene that a group of young people had been in the vicinity of the crime scene. They were identified over the course of the weekend by officers from the Herford criminal investigation department. These four youths are now being investigated for causing an explosive detonation, intentional arson and damage to property. Further investigations by the Herford Police Criminal Investigation Department are ongoing.
