The State Office for Central Police Services (LZPD NRW) began handing over the new "home jersey" for police officers today (May 17). Especially in the summer temperatures and to coincide with the European Football Championship, the officers now have the option of wearing a functional polo shirt as well as a short-sleeved shirt.

"I am delighted that we were able to outfit our police force with functional and comfortable polo shirts before the European Championships. What's more, the new shirts were put through their paces by the police officers beforehand. The new summery look will certainly surprise you at first, but is already the norm in many European vacation countries. It's a good way to start the soccer summer well dressed," says Interior Minister Herbert Reul.

Around 50,000 of the new "home shirts" are now being handed out to the emergency services by the police clothing center of the LZPD NRW. The first to benefit from the new functional clothing will be colleagues from the so-called venue authorities in Dortmund, Düsseldorf, Gelsenkirchen and Cologne. The other police authorities in the state will follow shortly afterwards. The Director of the LZPD NRW, Thomas Roosen, is also pleased about the rollout of the new polo shirts. "Our colleagues now have the opportunity to react even more flexibly to different weather conditions. Especially on hot days, the polo shirts will be more comfortable to wear in combination with the protective vest."

From now on, police officers working in the field will be free to choose whether they want to stick with the classic short-sleeved shirt or opt for the new polo shirt.
