Driving too fast on the road significantly increases the likelihood of serious accidents. Speeding endangers all road users everywhere and is the number one killer on our roads! That's why the Lippe police are consistently taking action against speeding. To protect you and your families from serious traffic accidents and their consequences, we monitor speeding throughout the Lippe district - unannounced.
From now on, we are taking a new approach to communicating speed checks. Some road users will miss it - others will be pleased that the publication of the measuring points is now a thing of the past.
In principle, the police authorities in NRW are free to decide whether to publish measuring points. Previously, the Lippe police published a small selection (location and street) of the measuring points for the coming week every Friday. In addition, unannounced "speeding" was always carried out. The announcement was used for prevention information to regularly draw attention to the dangers of speeding. We continue to intensively combat speeding on Lippe's roads through a mixture of control, sanctions and prevention in order to prevent serious traffic accidents. The repressive side will be strengthened in future, and prevention notices will be communicated with the results of speed measurements as press releases and on the authority's social media channels in order to achieve greater deterrence.
A recent event has reinforced our decision to change the communication strategy for speed monitoring. We drew a sobering conclusion from the speed measurements on "Car Friday": over 850 people were speeding on Lippe's roads on this day! Over 330 road users exceeded the speed limit so significantly that they were charged with an offense. 12 people will have to do without their vehicles for a while. In addition, over 520 road users were driving so fast that a warning fine is due.
Speeding is still one of the main reasons for serious injuries in road accidents on our roads. Therefore, please ALWAYS adhere to the applicable speed limits! The safety of the citizens of Lippe is our top priority. And safety should also be your top priority. So don't slow down to save money, but to get to your destination safely and not endanger anyone.
The results of our checks clearly show that speed measuring points are still useful and necessary - but in future they will be unannounced.
Please note: We use different measurement systems and vehicles for speed cameras - not all of our speed cameras are perceived as such.
Please always drive carefully and at an appropriate speed. Protect yourself and other road users by showing consideration for each other. The Lippe police wish you a safe journey - arrive at your destination safe and sound!
Why is that? Why? And why? The Lippe police clarify:
- Why we can't flash in certain areas
Whether and how it can be controlled depends on various factors. For example, the local conditions play a role. In other words, can the measuring devices be set up in such a way that conclusive measurements are possible? Sometimes, unfortunately, measurements are not possible for technical reasons. Nevertheless, we keep an eye on such locations. Our traffic service works closely with the local authorities and our security and district service to show a joint police presence and take consistent action against excessive speed.
- What can you do if you notice an increase in speeding violations in a particular area?
You are welcome to contact your local district officer or send us an email with your report to poststelle.lippe [at] polizei.nrw.de. Our colleagues will check whether measurements have already been taken there or whether this is possible in the future.
