The trend among the population to cover more and longer distances by bike or pedelec is also unbroken in the district of Lippe. The reasons for this can presumably be found in an increasing awareness of environmental protection and the desire for personal fitness and health maintenance among citizens. The increasing consideration of people on bicycles and pedelecs in the design of traffic areas in Lippe could also be another reason why more and more people are getting on their bikes. Unfortunately, the increase in this type of traffic participation in recent years has also led to an increase in accidents involving bicycles and pedelecs.
In response to the rising number of traffic accidents and in order to counteract this, the Lippe Police Traffic Directorate has implemented a "concept to reduce the number of cyclists and pedelec riders involved in accidents". These are therefore the focus of the Lippe police, primarily with traffic accident prevention measures.
We recommend that all cyclists take a look at the prevention flyer "Fahr Rad - mit Sicherheit: Sicher unterwegs mit Fahrrad, Pedelec und E-Bike" (available on the right-hand side of this page). Among other things, the flyer explains the difference between a bicycle, a pedelec and an e-bike - because many people in Lippe are not familiar with the details. It draws attention to the special features that must be taken into account when using pedelecs/e-bikes and the sources of danger compared to riding a "normal" bicycle. The flyer also contains the applicable traffic rules and many helpful tips.
The police's basic advice is:
- Keep your bike roadworthy!
- Wear a helmet when riding to protect yourself!
- Make sure you are wearing visible clothing and have appropriate lights on your bike so that you are clearly visible to other road users in the dark!

In the seminars, important traffic rules, technical and legal innovations and dangers for people on the pedelec are taught in theory and practice. The road safety advisors will also provide helpful tips on bike and helmet adjustments.
You must have your own pedelec/e-bike and a helmet to ensure that you can complete the training course safely.
